The latest company with this interest seems to be HSBC. In detail, the bank acquired a plot of virtual land within the Sandbox’s virtual world. Specifically, this plot will drive developments within entertainment in sports, gaming, and e-sports. More so, it aims to draw in finance professionals.

In particular, there aren’t many details out yet about HSBC’s plans with this plot. However, they have made it very clear that they believe the metaverse could be a huge space to explore. In fact, HSBC’s chief marketing officer for the Asia-Pacific region says that the metaverse will be how people will experience web3. This will be the “next generation of the Internet”. He also adds,

At HSBC, we see great potential to create new experiences through emerging platforms, opening up a world of opportunity for our current and future customers and for the communities we serve

With this partnership, HSBC will become the first global financial service provider to ever enter the Sandbox. Above all, together, they aim to usher in a new take on sports engagement within the gaming metaverse.

So far, The Sandbox has welcomed a number of interesting partners. To name a few, The Walking Dead, Adidas, Warner Music Group, Gucci, The Smurfs, Atari, Steve Aoki, Snoop Dogg, and many more.

It truly is interesting to see that more and more companies are investing in the metaverse. After Facebook changed its name to Meta in solidarity, we have only seen more interest. Suffice to say, the industry is eager to see what comes next.
