- Ad’s motive questioned
Hollywood A-lister Matt Damon has broken his silence on the motivation behind his appearance in Crypto.com’s polarizing “Fortune Favors the Brave” advertisement, which faced widespread ridicule when it first aired.
During the March 27 premiere of his latest film, Damon spoke with the Associated Press and seemed somewhat sheepish as he disclosed the rationale for participating in the ad campaign. The actor revealed that his primary motivation was to financially support his clean water initiative, Water.org, which experienced a significant downturn in funding.
Co-founded in 2009 by Damon and engineer-philanthropist Gary White, Water.org strives to improve global access to clean water by offering small loans aimed at purchasing and installing water taps and toilets. Damon shared that he once donated his entire salary to the organization when it faced severe financial challenges.
Damon went on to express gratitude towards Crypto.com, which learned of his charitable contribution and independently donated $1 million to Water.org. While some view the ad as a PR stunt, others may see Damon’s decision to participate as a necessary move to secure vital funding for his philanthropic efforts.
