The young digital artist’s journey began with her love of drawing, women, and dinosaurs. Her story serves as a reminder to all the parents to support their children’s interests.

Hayes said during an interview with NBC News Now: “I didn’t know what to call it. So I just thought of them as long neckies. When asked what is her inspiration to start drawing people with those long neck, she replied:

“At first, I just wanted to put two things that I love together, and that was a Brontosaurus and women. I wanted to show how beautiful and strong women were, and I thought of the brontosaurus as that as well.”

Her parents purchased her a smartphone to draw when she was 9. In March 2021, just a few years later, her uncle told young Hayes and her mother about non-fungible tokens (NFTs). They explored through YouTube videos what NFTs are and how to create and sell them online. Soon after, ‘long neckies’ were on sale and the rest was history.

The continuous purchase of her artwork brought Hayes awards like NFT.NYC 2021 Emerging Artist of the Year and Future 50’s most influential people in tech in 2021 and TIME’s Artist-in-Residence (where she created the Long Neckie Women of the Year collection). The most expensive NFT artwork she sold was $11,738. So far, she earned nearly $7 million in total.

Hayes’ success story was made possible by the support of her parents and relatives. “She really took an interest in art. I could see how passionate she was and I thought if I could support her in any way, that’s exactly what I’m going to do,” Hayes’ mother, Latoya replied when asked if she thought giving her smartphone at 9 could turn into this.

The creator of Long Neckie Brand pointed out:

“Honestly, when I first heard about NFTs, I was kind of like, I honestly don’t know about this, but I’ve been wanting to put my art out for a while, so it was a good platform to do it.”

The young digital artist’s story pointed out the importance of our families and community in the success of our children.
