- Tech giant Xiaomi files a patent related to blockchain technology.
- The patent allows the creation of unique and non-replicable virtual characters.
- Some suggest that these virtual characters will be the main attraction in a metaverse world that Xiaomi will create.
Xiaomi, a China-based tech and phone company, will launch a new patent that applies blockchain technology for the development of its own virtual characters.
The company has just recently revealed the patent, even though it was introduced in January 2022 in China. The patent was titled “Virtual Character Processing Method, Device and Storage Medium.”
Xiaomi is a Chinese company that designs and manufactures consumer electronics and related software, household items, and home appliances. The company was known for creating its mobile phones and gadgets.
According to the filing unveiled by the tech firm, the said patent will have a randomized creation for its virtual characters. This is due to the introduction of a gene sequence, which was in charge for establishing each of the character’s appearance.
The method will allow the creation of each of the characters to be unique and non-replicable. This might also be used by the tech company as their gateway to enter the metaverse space in the future.
The characters have the abilities to be trained, fed, clothed, and equipped with many other abilities. The blockchain-based storage of the created characters will help preserve each unique combination against destruction. The part where the patent uses blockchain suggests the utilization of the blockchain itself or similar technology, and it doesn’t hint at NFTs.
While no official statement has been made, there is a great possibility that Xiaomi will launch its own metaverse platform. Some theories suggest that these virtual characters will be the metaverse’s main feature.
