  • The campaign promotes safe technology use, digital inclusion, and human rights protection, targeting cybercrime in East and Southeast Asia.
  • The UNODC emphasizes global cooperation, highlighting the rise of cyber-enabled fraud by transnational crime groups in Asia.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has kicked off the TechSafeSpace campaign. The initiative is  aimed at fostering public-private collaboration to prevent scams and encourage responsible use of technology. The campaign seeks to build a safer and more inclusive digital world.

Binance’s Role in the Campaign

At the campaign’s launch, Binance highlighted the crucial role of these partnerships. They stressed that collaboration between public and private sectors is essential to tackling the cybercrimes we face today. These partnerships can more effectively combat complex strategies used by scammers and cybercriminals by combining resources and expertise.

TechSafeSpace is a regional project focused on raising awareness about safe technology use. It aims to boost digital inclusion, safeguard human rights and create a secure online space for everyone.

A recent UNODC report highlighted the rise of cyber-enabled fraud in East and Southeast Asia which is driven by transnational organized crime groups.

The Growing Threat of Cybercrime

The growing threat underscores the need for collective action to address these challenges. Additionally, the global ICT ecosystem is increasingly vulnerable to misuse of technology by both state and non-state actors. This poses significant risks to international peace and security.

The General Assembly’s 2022 resolution on responsible state behavior in ICT coupled with the intergovernmental committee to draft an international convention on ICT-related crimes emphasizes the importance of global cooperation in this area.

The UNODC’s TechSafeSpace campaign with Binance shines a spotlight on the need for public-private partnerships. These efforts are crucial in combating fraud and ensuring a secure digital environment for all.
