- Messaging giant WhatsApp has started enabling crypto transfer for American users.
- This function will happen via Pax Dollar (USDP) through the Novi wallet app.
WhatsApp has started implementing its cryptocurrency transfer function exclusively for American users beginning December 9. Specifically, users in the said country can have the option of sending and receiving money via the Novi digital wallet app.
According to Novi CEO Stephane Kasriel, the new function is currently in test mode. However, another tweet revealed that they started with this pilot six weeks ago. Since then, they were able to “test and learn” the features and functionality that users valued the most.
Kasriel also said that this function is free for users. Specifically, they will charge users zero fees for their transfer. Moreover, transferred amounts will appear directly in the users’ chat.
To reiterate, this function is available only in the US. As such, the only cryptocurrency that users can send and receive is Pax Dollar (USDP).
Additionally, Kasriel assured users that their privacy remains end-to-end encrypted.
Aside from the US, Novi wallet will also be available to other countries soon. In fact, users in Guatemala are already on the waitlist, according to the Novi website.
