The Twitter hacker responsible for the December breach that revealed 400M users’ private information requested $200,000 from Twitter in exchange for the return of the stolen data and threatened to release it for free if the demand was not met. The most recent data uploaded on the hacker site has been linked to the same data breach from December 2022.

Privacy Affairs researchers have determined that the disclosed data set on the hacker forum dates back to December. In this instance, 200 million was determined by removing duplicates. The given collection of data does not include telephone numbers. The researchers cautioned that these data sets might be utilized for social engineering or doxing efforts.

Some well-known and prominent names and organizations included in the Twitter breach are Sundar Pichai, Donald Trump Jr., SpaceX, CBS Media, the NBA, and WHO. 

As these intrusions jeopardized activists and whistleblowers, many Twitter users asked that the social media company improve its security.

In other news, during the proceedings for Voyager’s bankruptcy that are taking place in the Southern District of New York, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the United States Trustee working within the Justice Department, and state regulators from New Jersey and Vermont have all filed motions objecting to Binance US’s acquisition of Voyager.

In its filing, the SEC questioned the sufficiency of the information that was provided in Binance.US’s disclosure statement. Specifically, the SEC questioned the details provided regarding the ability of the cryptocurrency exchange to “consummate a transaction of this magnitude.”
