Streaming music Spotify is currently testing “token-enabled playlists,” a brand-new feature that allows holders of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to connect their wallets and access carefully chosen music. Notably, the program is accessible to token owners in the Fluf, Kingship, Moonbirds, and Overlord communities.

The curated playlists will be frequently updated during the three-month testing period and only be available to community members via a specific link. For example, on Wednesday, the Web3 gaming and media giant Overlord stated that owners of the Creepz NFT project, which features lizards, could link their Web3 wallet to Spotify to access the project’s crowdsourced “Invasion” playlist.

According to a tweet by Overlord, the pilot is only presently accessible to the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, New Zealand, and Australian users. Spotify appeared to corroborate the information in a tweet reply.

A token-gated playlist for NFT holders that featured tracks by Led Zeppelin, Queen, Snoop Dogg, and Missy Eliott was also made by the NFT band KINGSHIP from Universal Music Group. To access the curated playlist for KINGSHIP on Spotify, Apoorv Lathey, the leading designer for the NFT liquidity protocol NFTX, shared a screenshot from the pilot.

The worldwide streaming network, which has over 489 million users, has attempted to include NFTs in the past. In May 2022, Spotify permitted some artists to promote NFTs on their profiles, including The Wombats and Steve Aoki.

Furthermore, to decentralize the music-listening experience, several Web3 audio platforms have emerged. For example, Audius, a crypto-linked streaming platform, enables users to obtain AUDIO token benefits for using its app, unlike Royal and another block, which allow creators to trade music revenues as fractionalized NFTs.
