Various artists who appear to have no prior knowledge that their work has been minted into NFTs only found out about HitPiece after the said incident. This is because HitPiece is only a startup.

As per various reports, the startup was selling music from indie artists to pop superstars including the South Korean sensation BTS. The artist who found out about the incident was Jeremy Blake, a US-based electronic music artist.

On the other hand, HitPiece responded by posting a tweet.

No apologies came from the startup, although it admitted as much as having “struck a nerve”.

To be fair, HitPiece enables indie artists to get additional exposure and an avenue for them to sell their music. However, one artist pointed out the need for a licensing agreement before doing so.

In other news, leading music platform Spotify is in the hot seat regarding its decision to retain Joe Rogan on its platform. The issue arose when Neil Young threatened to remove his music from Spotify. After his threat did not work, Young made good on his promise and removed his songs altogether.
