  3. Nexo case involves modern crimes in cyberspace

Siika Mileva, a spokesperson for the Office of the Prosecutor General, stated that a probe against the cryptocurrency trading company Nexo is not political.

In relation to recent allegations that Nexo supported the campaigns of Continue the Change and Democratic Bulgaria, Mileva stated that it is not the subject of the pre-trial procedures whether the corporation has made any political donations or to whom they are linked.

Mileva emphasized that in recent years, practically every instance in which the prosecution initiates an inquiry that concerns a party’s financial interests has resulted in attacks and accusations.

Mileva stated that attacking institutions had become a national pastime.

It has become a national sport to attack the institutions

The prosecution service announced on January 12 that it was investigating the Nexo cryptocurrency trading company. The operation’s specifics, which entail multinational collaboration, were eventually revealed.

Four individuals have been charged with participation in a criminal organization for the purposes of money laundering, tax evasion, computer fraud, and unlicensed banking. A bail of one million Bulgarian lev was issued for two of them. Mileva explained that two others have not been located on Bulgarian soil and have been declared internationally wanted persons.

The case involves so-called modern crimes in cyberspace, which are particularly serious offenses, according to a representative for the Prosecutor General. She noted that the probe has been ongoing with international partner services for some months.
