Limewire To Launch Music NFT With Universal Music

• Limewire signed a deal with Universal Music Group for music NFT licensing.
• UMG artists will be able to sell their music in the form of NFTs through Limewire.
• Along with early Limewire marketplace access, users can also win NFT airdrops by signing up for its waitlist.

Limewire, a discontinued peer-to-peer file-sharing software, revealed a partnership with Universal Music Group via tweet to bring music NFTs via its marketplace.

The free file sharing software is relaunching as an NFT marketplace for art and entertainment, pointing out that it initially focused on music. The company claims that they are returning as a platform for artists, as they offer the majority of the revenue to them. Furthermore, they vowed full ownership to creators when it comes to their content.

Being one of the first brands to provide access to music online in the early 2000s, Limewire played a vital role in the on-demand and streaming era today. The brand’s comeback was supposed to turn around its controversial relationship with the music industry back in the day.

Limewire marketplace allows users to create, buy and trade NFT collectibles via its platform. In addition, they will open up a channel via its platform in order for artists to engage with fans and buyers.

Following Limewire’s announcement, Universal Music Group shared via tweet that signed artists can now offer audio recordings, audiovisual content, backstage footage, and other artworks as NFTs on the Limewire marketplace.

The NFT marketplace of Limewire will be launching this May. Users can now sign up on the waitlist to get early access to the platform. Moreover, those who signed up will have a chance to win one of the 10,000 exclusive NFT airdrops upon the launch of Limewire marketplace.
