The photo and video sharing app Instagram revealed in a tweet that its social media app is going to integrate non-fungible tokens (NFTs) into its platform. The brand new feature would enable NFT creators and collectors in showcasing their NFTs on Instagram.
According to a blog post, they already began testing it with a couple creators and collectors in the US. This new feature includes allowing creators and collectors to connect and choose which NFTs from their wallet they would like to share on Instagram.
Once they post their collectibles, it will have a shimmer effect and users can display public information of their NFT. In addition, the team has updated its security features for account and wallet protection of users connected. Posting and sharing NFTs on its app doesn’t involve any fees.
“At Meta, we’re looking at what creators are already doing across our technologies in order to improve the experience, help them create more monetization opportunities, and bring NFTs to a broader audience,” Instagram’s parent company Meta Inc. disclosed in the blog post.
The company’s goal is “to improve accessibility, lower barriers to entry, and help make the NFT space more inclusive to all communities.” Adding that Meta will “will help reduce the emissions impact that might be associated with the display of digital collectibles on Instagram by purchasing renewable energy.”

The company will also explore additional features and continue to listen to feedback as the initial test goes along. Furthermore, Meta also revealed that Facebook will integrate NFTs soon.
