Hacking Collective Introduces Offline Personal AI Tool, Challenging ChatGPT Dominance

A hacking collective has recently developed a personal artificial intelligence (AI) system, reminiscent of ChatGPT, that can be installed and operated on home computers without requiring an internet connection. This new AI tool emerges as Elon Musk, an early OpenAI investor, cautions that rapid AI development is propelling us towards a technological tipping point.

On April 11, Brian Roemmele, founder of the technology blog Multiplex, published an in-depth guide on installing GPT4All, describing it as a groundbreaking moment for personal AI. GPT4All was created by programmers at AI development firm Nomic AI in a mere four days, with a development cost of just $1,300 and a storage requirement of only 4GB.

While Roemmele acknowledges that GPT4All is not as potent as OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4, a substantial upgrade from ChatGPT-3.5, he maintains that it is a formidable tool in its own right.

He states,

Are there limitations? Of course. It is not ChatGPT 4, and it will not handle some things correctly.

However, it is one of the most powerful Personal AI systems ever released.” The introduction of GPT4All challenges ChatGPT’s dominance, showcasing the evolving AI landscape.

In other news, the much-anticipated Shapella hard fork was effectively implemented on the Ethereum mainnet on April 12th, marking a historic day for the Ethereum community. The hard fork, which occurred precisely at epoch 194,048 at 10:27 UTC, now permits Ethereum validators to withdraw their staked Ether from the Beacon Chain.
