Six months before FTX’s devastating collapse, Google Cloud reportedly invested $300 million in the artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic, which also got over $500 million from former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried.

We’re partnering with Google Cloud to support the next phase of Anthropic, where we’re going to deploy our AI systems to a larger set of people. This partnership gives us the cloud infrastructure performance and scale we need.
The Financial Times reported the $300 million amount invested by the firm, but Anthropic confirmed the investment partnership with Google Cloud without giving any numbers.
Anthropic will use Google Cloud’s GPU and TPU clusters to train, expand, and implement its AI chatbox, Claude, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGTP.
Dario Amodei added,
We are eager to use the Google Cloud infrastructure to build reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. This partnership with Google Cloud will let us build a more robust AI platform.
In other developments, Russia increases its capacity for cryptocurrency mining to 500 megawatts. According to a study by the Russian news outlet Kommersant, the overall capacity of crypto mining facilities in Russia has grown during the previous year.
The aggregate mining capacity of cryptocurrency mining farms has climbed to 500 megawatts (MW). Russian mining companies were surveyed to collect the data.
