President Joe Biden personally expressed gratitude towards Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday. Biden acknowledged Tinubu’s contribution in ensuring the freedom of Tigran Gambaryan, an executive at Binance.

Gambaryan had spent eight months in detention in Nigeria. He was accused of committing money laundering and tax evasion.  Nigerian authorities later dropped the charges.

This raised concern among U.S. officials and advocacy groups. They urged Biden’s administration to advocate for Gambaryan’s release.
