• The AMC mobile app for US theaters now accepts Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, and other cryptocurrencies.
  • The company started accepting Bitcoin, Ether, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin in November 2021.
  • Dogecoin fans demanding the meme cryptocurrency be accepted has led the CEO to consider adding the meme tokens.

AMC Theaters, the largest theater chain in the US, has announced that it is now accepting Dogecoin (DOGE), Shiba Inu (SHIB), and other cryptocurrencies for online payments. The movie theater giant hasn’t revealed the names of other integrated cryptocurrencies.

In a recent tweet, AMS Theaters CEO Adam Aron shared that moviegoers must update their AMC Theatres’ iOS and Android mobile apps to pay using crypto assets. In addition, Aron said that the app is using Bitpay support to process the crypto payments. The online crypto payment will be accepted in the US for now.

In August last year, the company announced Its initial plan to accept cryptocurrencies by the end of 2021. It was in November 2021 when the company first started accepting crypto payments. Customers can purchase movie tickets online using Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Litecoin (LTC). Soon after enabling crypto payments, the CEO revealed that the new payment method accounted for 14% of total online transactions.

A month after its crypto acceptance announcement, Aron tweeted a poll if they should accept Dogecoin as well. More than two-thirds of 140,388 voters said yes. In October last year, AMC Theaters accepted Dogecoin through digital gift cards up to $200 per day.

AMC Theaters announced in January this year the integration of meme coins DOGE and SHIB via online payments on Twitter. He also revealed the implementation date will be around March. Even though the release date pushed further, the company managed to deliver its promised crypto integration weeks after.

To purchase movie tickets and popcorn using DOGE, customers must simply select BitPay as a payment method. This should happen right after adding the AMC tickets through their cart. Customers must also connect their crypto wallet or get an address where they can send their chosen crypto.
