• FIL surged 14% after defending $1 support and reaching a five-month high.
  • Vesting completion may cut annual FIL emissions by 75%, boosting scarcity.
  • Bullish derivatives activity supports momentum, though profit-taking remains a key risk.

Filecoin — FIL, has captured traders’ attention after a powerful price rally pushed the token to a five-month high. Strong buying activity returned after FIL successfully defended a key support zone near $1. Market participants are now watching an upcoming event that could reshape supply dynamics for years ahead. With trading volume surging and bullish sentiment building across derivatives markets, many investors are asking the same question: can Filecoin maintain momentum and continue climbing?

Vesting Schedule Nears Completion

Filecoin’s recent rally appears closely linked to growing optimism surrounding a major supply event. On October 15, the six-year vesting schedule for Protocol Labs and the Filecoin Foundation is expected to conclude. This milestone could significantly reduce the number of new FIL tokens entering circulation. Annual token emissions are projected to fall by 75%.

Expected yearly releases could drop to 22 million FIL from 89 million FIL. That represents a reduction of more than 67 million tokens. Such a shift marks one of the biggest supply changes since Filecoin launched. Lower supply growth often strengthens scarcity. Reduced selling pressure can also support bullish market conditions when demand remains strong. Investors appear to be positioning ahead of this event.

After defending the $1 support area, FIL broke above the $1.2 resistance level. The token then climbed to a five-month high near $1.27. At the time of writing, Filecoin traded around $1.24, reflecting a 14% daily gain. Market participation also increased sharply. Trading volume jumped 150% to $269 million. Rising volume typically signals stronger conviction behind a price move.

Bulls Stay Active but Profit Taking Remains a Risk

The derivatives market shows growing confidence among traders. Data from CoinGlass revealed that Open Interest climbed 23% to $312 million. Derivatives trading volume also surged 103% to $613 million. Higher Open Interest and volume suggest fresh capital entered the market. Traders opened new positions as expectations increased around the upcoming vesting milestone.

Sentiment also favored the bulls. Long-to-short ratios remained above neutral levels across major exchanges. Many traders appeared willing to take leveraged long positions in anticipation of further upside. Despite the optimism, some investors have started locking in profits. Spot netflows remained positive for three consecutive days. After FIL moved above $1.2, netflows reached $2.5 million before easing to around $1.74 million over the last day.

Positive netflows often indicate more tokens moving toward exchanges. That trend can increase selling pressure. If profit taking accelerates, bullish momentum could weaken. Technical indicators still support buyers for now. The Relative Strength Index remains near 66, placing FIL comfortably in bullish territory. As long as demand absorbs selling activity, Filecoin could break above $1.30 and target a move toward $1.32.
