Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan predicts US Bitcoin ETFs could surpass $50 billion in inflows by 2025. This estimate follows a strong start to the year, with nearly $5 billion recorded in January. Bitwise’s own Bitcoin ETF ranked fifth among the 11 funds, securing over $125 million in net inflows.
In 2024, Bitcoin ETFs saw $35.2 billion in total inflows. This exceeded early expectations of $15 billion at launch. Analysts now anticipate continued growth as institutional adoption increases. The rising demand suggests Bitcoin ETFs could surpass last year’s figures.
BlackRock and Fidelity Lead Market Inflows
BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) led the market in January, recording approximately $3.2 billion in net inflows. Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) followed, attracting nearly $1.3 billion.
Grayscale’s Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF (BTC) secured fourth place with around $398.5 million in inflows. Bitwise’s Bitcoin ETF (BITB) placed fifth, bringing in over $125 million. These figures highlight the increasing institutional interest in Bitcoin ETFs.
Institutional Adoption Expected to Drive Inflows
Experts believe institutional investors will continue expanding their Bitcoin ETF holdings. Historically, ETFs experience slower inflows in their first year before accelerating. Gold ETFs saw $2.6 billion in their first year and more than doubled to $5.5 billion in the second.
Major financial advisory firms have yet to grant full access to Bitcoin ETFs for their wealth managers. Analysts suggest this could change in 2025, leading to increased exposure. If more institutions allocate funds, Bitcoin ETFs could attract even larger inflows.
The rise of institutional demand has propelled ongoing Bitcoin ETF inflows. Analysts predict that 2025 will break all previous records if investment trends maintain their current trajectory. The increasing usage stands to make Bitcoin ETFs become fundamental financial market investment tools.
