What would one do if he mistakenly threw away a hard drive containing up to 7,500 bitcoins (BTC)?
Read CRYPTONEWSLAND onFor British IT specialist James Howells, digging up a landfill can be one. In fact, when he lost his hard drive that contained the said amount of BTC, he sought permission from his city council to excavate the landfill and donate 25% of his bitcoins to the city should he repossess his hard drive.
That was in 2021. However, a Reddit post claimed that Howells just got back his hard drive. But instead of BTC, the post said the hard drive contained Bitcoin Cash (BCH). Given that the price of each BCH is $124.94 at the time of writing, the wallet would have allegedly been worth $937,050. Not bad, if only Howells actually regained his wallet.
As many Redditors have pointed out, however, the post is fake because BCH only started existing back in 2017 when Roger Ver and his followers decided that BTC needed to have bigger blocks to facilitate transactions faster.
As for Howells, his Twitter account is not active in that he is not posting anything since last year. However, after a quick look at his likes, one can see that he is still active on Twitter, at least. It is safe to assume that Howells has not given up on his goal to retrieve his hard drive.
