NFT Gaming’s Not Dead: 3 Games To Watch Out For This 2023

For some people, NFT gaming is effectively done and dusted. Frontrunners such as Axie Infinity and Pegaxy have witnessed massive declines in user base and game valuation. Some might say that Play-to-Earn (P2E) was just a passing thing and that the hype has died for good.

However, the renewed interest in Bitcoin (BTC) $ 57,462.40 -4.39%and other leading altcoins has seemingly revived the NFT gaming scene. In fact, there is a resurgence happening across various NFT games that have continued building during the crypto winter.

For example, Ronin (RON), the official token of Axie Infinity’s sidechain Roninchain, has a rate of -1.95% at the time of writing, with a possibility of reclaiming the $1 level soon. But for those who are not keen on investing in Axie Infinity anymore, here are three newly-launched NFT games that are worth looking into this 2023.

Oath of Peak

Many might not have heard of Oath of Peak yet, especially since the game just launched recently. And it would have been easy to dismiss this game, except for this one little detail: the game uses the Polygon (MATIC) $ 0.68521 1.89% network.

Yes, the mere fact that Oath of Peak has already launched is proof enough that Polygon (MATIC) is capable of creating a thriving ecosystem for NFT gaming. In fact, one representative from Oath of Peak’s team reached out to CNL and revealed that Polygon’s very own Sandeep Nailwal has endorsed the game.

Gameplay-wise, Oath of Peak is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). This means that players enter the game as a single character who interacts with a virtual world alongside other players. In other words, Oath of Peak is a metaverse in itself.

CNL was privileged enough to obtain early access to the game. After the early access, the game will become available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, not to mention its own PC version.

Unlike earlier NFT games, Oath of Peak is completely free to play (F2P), which means that gamers won’t have to invest anything just to play the game.

Anito Legends

Anito Legends is a game released by a crew of Filipino NFT gaming developers. Given that Axie Infinity’s $ 6.89 1.90% success can be credited to the explosive growth of its fanbase in the Philippines, there’s definitely a reason why Anito Legends is something worth keeping an eye on.

Basically, Anito Legends looks like an earlier version of Axie Infinity, only that the theme is 100% Filipino. The game title, the mythical creatures, and their appearances — all these are inspired by the unique Philippine folklore and mythology.

As seen in the tweet above, the game will launch in early access on January 25. In addition, Legendary NFTs containing special Anitos have already been sold out. There’s only a limited number of Epic, Common, and Duende NFTs up for grabs for interested gamers.

Sorare

Sorare may be the most unique NFT game, gameplay-wise. In a nutshell, Sorare is a trading card game in which card owners get points based on the performance of the real person behind a particular athlete.

NFT trading cards are available for at least three sports, which are football, basketball, and baseball. Each digital trading card represents a particular professional athlete in the said sporting scenes.

So how does the game work? For instance, one gamer has a Lionel Messi trading card. He can include the Messi card in his lineup of players and enter digital competitions on Sorare. 

The gamer’s points in the competition will rely on the actual performance of the person represented by the trading card. Since Messi has won the World Cup, the gamer’s Messi trading card will incur huge points for him. More detailed explanation of the game rules can be found here.

Bonus: Updates to Most Anticipated Games

Axie Infinity was able to release critical updates including the second season of its Origins, as well as the Land gameplay. Meanwhile, AAA games Illuvium $ 88.92 -3.18% and Star Atlas have yet to release their respective games in beta, although their social media accounts are still posting regular updates.
