After a brief hiatus of two weeks, the Ethereum development team got back together on January 5 for their first All Core Developers (ACD) call of 2023. With the emphasis shifting to modifications to Ethereum’s execution layer, ACD calls will be renamed ACD Execution (ACDE) calls beginning in 2023. Unlike before, they will be broadcast live on the @EthereumProtocol YouTube account instead of the @EthereumFoundation YouTube channel.
Ultimately, Ethereum’s core developers settled on a compromise: they would exclude End-of-File (EOF) implementation scripts from the highly anticipated Shanghai hard fork update. In favor of the EOF EIPs, the experts have also decided to leave out all Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) from the Shanghai upgrade. As a result, the only new instrument that would be introduced with Shanghai’s activation is the possibility of withdrawing Ethers (ETH) from the staking mechanism. The developers have decided to set up public testnets in January 2023 so that this process is as simple and uses as few resources as possible.
Additionally, starting in the new year, Ethereum ACD Calls will be renamed ACD Execution (ACDE) calls. This change is being made to more accurately represent the participants’ concentration on the execution layer of the most popular smart contract platform. There will be yet another series of developer calls known as the ACD Consensus (ACDC) calls, during which participants will discuss Ethereum’s consensus layer (ETH).
