In a recent report from The New York Times (NYT), it was revealed that two Google employees, responsible for reviewing the company’s AI products, attempted to prevent the launch of Google’s own AI chatbot, Bard. They believed that the technology produced inaccurate and potentially harmful statements, rivaling OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Microsoft faced a similar situation as it prepared to introduce an AI chatbot integrated into its Bing browser. Ethicists and employees at the tech giant expressed concerns about the chatbot’s potential to erode critical thinking, spread disinformation, and undermine the foundations of a fact-based society.

Despite these concerns, both Microsoft and Google proceeded with their chatbot releases. Microsoft launched its Bing-integrated chatbot in February, and Google followed with the release of Bard in late March, a few months after OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT-4 in November 2022.

The emergence of ChatGPT and similar AI technologies has fueled ongoing debates surrounding the ethical considerations and appropriate applications of AI chatbots and image generators. As the influence of these technologies continues to grow, their potential impact on society’s critical thinking and information landscape remains a pressing concern.

In other news, Craig Wright, the controversial computer scientist who claims to be the inventor of Bitcoin, has now targeted Apple, alleging that the tech behemoth is violating copyright laws. After discovering that the Bitcoin white paper was stored on Apple computers without the knowledge of many Mac users, the accusation is made.
